Jonas Akerlund

Jonas Akerlund is a Swedish music video director who was born on November 10, 1965. Through 1983 to 1984, he played drums for the Swedish black metal band Bathory. He first found fame as the main video director for the pop rock duo Roxette. Some of the videos Akerlund has directed are;

  • "Run to You" - Roxette
  • "Smack My Bitch Up" - The Prodigy
  • "Ray of Light" - Madonna
  • "Turn the Page" - Metallica
  • "Beautiful Day" - U2
  • "I Miss You" - Blink 182
  • "Sober" - Pink
  • "Paparazzi" - Lady Gaga
  • "Let Me Hear You Scream" - Ozzy Osbourne
  • "Moves Like Jagger" - Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera

Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5

What I enjoy about this music video is how you see all of the band and how upbeat the video seems by the use of lighting, and also by the amount of people dancing. There isn't really anything I didn't like about this music video, as it just seems like a really nice and upbeat music video. What I will use from this music video in my product is the band shots to show who are performing the song.

David Fincher

David Fincher is an American film and music video director, who was born on August 28, 1962. He has directed films like Fight Club, Seven and Alien 3, but he has directed big budget videos for a variety of artists, but he has mainly worked with Madonna. Some of the music videos he has directed are;

  • "Vogue" - Madonna
  • "Freedom '90" - George Michael
  • "Janie's Got a Gun" - Aerosmith
  • "Love Is Strong" - The Rolling Stones
  • "Express Yourself"
  • "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off" - Jermaine Stuart
  • "Only" - Nine Inch Nails
  • "Oh Father" - Madonna

Vogue - Madonna

What I like is the use of black and white and the costumes, as they seem to fit a specific era in time (1920's-30's to be exact) and it helps capture that moment in time. What I don't like is the dancing in it, as it seems a bit odd (however the style of dancing fits in with the meaning of the song, so in a sense it is a good thing). What I may use in my music video is the use of black and white as it can really help bring out a mood or an era well.

Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris

Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris are a team of film and music video directors, and are also a married couple. They received critical acclaim for their directing debut, Little Miss Sunshine. They have directed videos for a diverse amount of bands. Some of the music videos they have directed are;
  •  "The Zephyr Song" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • "1979" - The Smashing Pumpkins
  • "Sing" - Travis
  • "She's Got Issues" - The Offspring
  • "Otherside" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • "Tonight, Tonight" - The Smashing Pumpkins
  • "All Around The World" - Oasis
  • "Freak On A Leash" - Korn
  • "The Good Life" - Weezer
  • "Wolves Lower" - R.E.M
  • "By the Way" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • "Tell Me Baby" - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Otherside - Red Hot Chili Peppers

What I enjoy about this music video is the black and white Gothic style used, as it lets you get the feel of what the song is about, with it being about drug addiction. It lets you see the darker, distorted side of the song. There is nothing I don't like about this music video. What I believe I will incorporate into my music video from this music video is the black and white theme, and if possible the gothic elements too.

Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) - The Offspring

What I like about this music video is the comical approach, as you don't find many music videos like this nowadays. I also like how bright the lighting seems in some scenes, as this seems to show how 'uplifting' the video is. Again, there is nothing I do not like about this video. I will try and incorporate some of the close-up shots into my music video, as you can see the artist better from this.
